Visit Linköping

by Ulf Lilja Koski on November 23, 2011

A little over a year ago I visited Norrköping. Norrköping has since been my favorite city in Sweden with its beautiful industrial landscapes, and particularly block Kneippen with its own character with a variety of building styles combined in the same block.

Hus i kvarteret Kneippen i Norrköping

Houses in the neighborhood Kneippen in Norrköping

The reason I chose to go to Norrkoping was just that I've seen a picture from Kneippen and wanted to know more about one quarter off. Before I went there trying to be a friend persuaded me to travel to Linköping, rather than when he came from there, and in Linköping liked it apparently Norrköping. Linkoping, however, had no Kneippen, so the bar of course off to Norrköping.

Gradually, however, I met more and more coming from Linköping and all scoff when I say that Norrköping is my favorite city. None of the people who scoff have been able to tell me why Linkoping would be better and therefore thought I go back this summer and check out what's up. Perhaps some of my acquaintances and Linkoping Linkoping Classmates let me TAKE OFF THE SLAG with them, or I, as usual, and looking for a sofa on CouchSurfing, or find a cheap hotel in Linköping .

After taking it easy on travel in 2011, I will start again in spring / summer 2012, I have, after all, a new travel bag to open. I've been looking for the perfect travel bag for hand luggage for three years and managed to find it now. The I'll tell you more about another time, but I offer a picture today.

Amsterdam? Berlin? Time to use the EuroBonus points?

by Ulf Lilja Koski on October 20, 2011

My EuroBonus points have now come up in a total of 16 200 and I have calculated to make a city trip to the end of the year. The point I intend to use for a plane ticket to Amsterdam or Berlin, but it looks to be a little difficult to get more trips during the year, partly because of studies that take time and will start Christmas shopping and the business will take a lot of time.

16,200 points is enough for right now for a single journey and nearly back, so maybe I do best to wait until I have points to a tur-/returresa and avoid the stress involved if I'll try to keep up with studies and the holiday shopping season. Presumably, it also has some nice week from SAS later that I can make the most of, if I wait.

SAS EuroBonus-poäng

SAS EuroBonus points is always fun to travel.

A trip to Berlin or Amsterdam, however, will be. Amsterdam attracts even then there are some exciting architecture I want to photograph and fit well with my urban studies.

Find train travel between cities and places in Europe

by Ulf Lilja Koski on August 11, 2011

DB Bahn

DB Bahn

I would look for travel by train between Malmo and Vienna , but it was certainly not as easy as I thought. It took a while before I found the right place where I could search for train travel between various cities and countries in Europe.

Now that I've found the right place, I would like to recommend Bahn.com that allows you to search for train travel and see different transit station, etc. at your travel in Europe.

Friday 17 / 7 2009
Meetings with other people have so far been few. Not even when I would sit at the back against the window of the airplane was someone in the way. However, I have been in contact with people on the train. Eye contact with two people at the airport.

Reflection: The majority can not cross the street when the old man is red. Not even when it is empty in the street (it is forbidden?).

Visit the Votivkirche.

Reflection: It emphasized less in Vienna than in Paris.

Swirling roads on all sides and edges. Hard to keep up with the map.
Clean streets.
Yes, the Danube is brown. Nice with terraces at the water.
Much rebuilding of the city to destroy.
At the Danube, they laid out a sandy beach. A DJ plays South American music and lounge, he plays like a pro.
Hope I did not burn me or get sunstroke. The sun's rays.
What is it with these South American tones associated with the heat that brings out the joy, enthusiasm and openness of the people?

Saturday 18 / 7 2009
Morning
The owner of the hotel comes into the dining room during breakfast and explains that he must run the cleaning lady to the hospital "so if someone shows up so you can well tell them? OK? "
- "OK," I said I and the other guy who was sitting in the dining room.
The hotel had an interesting solution to get in and out. Was there no one at the front desk so was the front door locked and you had to use his key card, which worked in both the entrance and the room door, to enter.
When I got to the hotel on Friday there was no one that could take me. Instead, I had to contact someone via the "night watchman phone" that sat outside the entrance, and probably was connected to the hotel owner's phone. He checked if I had a reservation, unlocked the front door and he gave me a code to open a key cabinet that I could collect my key card. It took a while before I realized there was a cupboard, but eventually I found it and got out my key card.
I have not had time to eat my breakfast until the hotel manager comes back again after leaving the lady at the hospital. He sits down with us, now I and two other people, and tells what happened with the chambermaid.
She cleaned the room and put on a sprutnål, then the guy who rented the room, "the vociferous", proved to be a junkie. Junkie father had previously received and rented a room for three weeks ahead for his son. When the son showed up thought the hotel manager that guy looked like a junkie, but the guy told me he was on rehabilitation with the medicine. The guy was loud, stayed in room 208 (the side of me).

Evening
Starbucks Coffee in the Innere Stadt. Not far from St. Stephen's Cathedral / Lugeck. I take the largest caffe latte they have to warm me up after a rainy and windy day. Jazz is played through the speakers.
My German to come back. Every time I say something I think first of tysaka and then in English. Probably the German around me that affect me. I have also learned to appreciate the German language. It's nice. Do not know if the Austrian German is softer than the German. Maybe working in Austria one day.
Every fucking time I visit a museum or exhibition, I realize that I am not a museumtyp. All this endless wandering in empty space when I could be out on the streets, cafes, pubs and restaurants, and observe, meet and talk to people. Note the present. I do not understand how such as history can attract so much, when it is present we find ourselves in when we travel. Certainly there are special things at shows that attract, but this requires a genuine interest in the subject if you want to keep their spirits oh it interesting while you wander around the showroom.
I go to the bathroom at Starbucks and leave instead. The time is 17:48. Takes me back to the hotel to rest and leave things for the continued evening.

[REST]

21:50
It is dark outside. Finds the first bar set back from keeps the plate at the University Str. There is a cave-like atmosphere with candle light, clean, nice, some form of vinkällarkänsla - what the hell that means. Order a beer and select bars and dance halls on the map. Sitting and writing to not work alone, yet I have not the courage to make contact. Where is the social inspiration?
The girl who works at the place is cute. Shit what I drink my beer quickly. In a way, I would get drunk and start to interact in a different way, I would not be too full in an unknown city. Language and the local mind shortcomings.
It smells right now scented candles, or is it perfume? Still smokes cigarettes indoors. Sooner or later take good cigarette smell over.
It was ten o'clock at kvälleen, I have not spent too much time here but still seems to both the bar and the streets filled with more people than it was ten minutes ago.
She looks to be new here, she sees the query spirit when she has nothing to do, and not sure when she has something to do.
It is one of the reasons that I travel alone. Not always to have to make contact, but also of being forced to watch and observe as I sit alone.
Will the night life started here in Vienna at eleven o'clock, as in Sweden? I'll probably find out. At ten o'clock opening in all cases discos. Does heart rate increased in the city, or is it my salon binge that starts to take over?
Now I intend to find out which one is their darkest beer.
She understood me enough, not really, or so they had no dark beer ...
Stiegel it gets. Will check when I get home.
The matches are free, but relatively few smoke. Is it because it is mostly tourists who are here tonight and not Vienna.
When the alcohol starts to seem really? How many beers are needed? I need more beer when you expect a social salon intoxication? What forces are involved?
Now begin to cigarette smoke take over. It is galling. It is probably due to the now current habit to smoke indoors.
To cigarette smoke sneaks up on can obviously be due to the three newly guys to my left at the bar sits and smokes. They play Spens song "Hey Mary Anne what's your ...". Wonderful, then they go over to the fucking "Donald caviar" song "that's the way aha aha I like it" talking about destroying the atmosphere!
The other employees, or owners, looking at her as if she were new. A little puzzled and condescending view. "Can you really do this," asks their eyes. They do not appear to have had someone new in place for a long time, and it does not seem as if they themselves know what it is like to be new to the job. I can understand their lack of understanding for the girl's way. Body language says a lot. As I realized that the guy at the bar talking to the girl who works there, but she heard him. This is without understanding et word he said.
Beck's, they have not, I'll take a Pilsner Urquell instead.
Damn, when I get sensations of the alcohol starts to German sound like when one tries to speak Danish Scanian for fun.
Now run the Bob Dylan. Tambourine Man. It is in this loneliness and abroad that you realize how universal and easy everything is with world-class artists and McDonalds. And now run the Do wha diddy diddy dum diddy do.
The time is eleven and I'm still in the same bar.
She may not be new here. She may just be tired of his job and his colleagues. But it looks as if he teaches her up now. And now they seem to be annoyed with each other. Now were talking the whole gang together and laughed. It may be that she is together with the owner and that during the day to be agreed. Or so she tries to show me that she is single and interested by showing his disinterest in the other.
Why is the Fight Club (not the movie, but the sport) on the TV at a bar with drunk people?
OK, here is drunk. Now I just think positive and smile, as if I were with friends, otherwise I get tired. The time is just twenty minutes past eleven. THEN, we usually go home if we are obese at the pub. I have just been me three beers as some deep and difficult to fill with stumbling words are not current. Three beers in two hours is not dangerous.
I like German because it is so similar to Swedish.
Always have cash with you because it is not always taxis or bars accept VISA or other card, even in tourist locations.
It is a quarter past twelve. I'm on Nightfly's. They have specialized in cocktails and whiskey and has a menu with 93 pages full of drinks that you can order. It accepts VISA.
Strawberry daiquiri tastes like strawberry.
I thought it would be more of Vienna, but this is pretty empty. Why?
Thanks to a Viennese I found here. He knew about every address I was looking for there. Dorothe ... blablabla.
Peanuts, I got the bargain, I think. I'm on a "Tannalös" bar. Tannalös, a friend, he had loved instead. He'd love the music, here he had heard and seen with his retinue, his entourage.
It strikes me that there is a difference between the light and put just the right lighting.
The time is at night and I missed the last tram. A drink left. Am I going anywhere, or will the taxi then? If I find a dance place? Should I sleep all day Sunday and do the rest on Monday? Are there any Swedes there had been a good last outing.

A person contacted me. He felt sorry for me as I sat alone and wrote in my book with two drinks in front of me. He thought that a drink belonged to my girlfriend who stabbed and I sat and wrote a farewell letter before I would kill myself. You have friends if you look suicidal out.

I ended up on the dance instead Floridita, a salsa place, with my new friends from Nightfly's. They hung on. Then stack the home. I found Mary on the dance instead. Barchata and salsa, she taught me. Then she followed me to the first tram home. Tell more later.

[TELL ABOUT MEETING - knock on the shoulder]

Sunday 19 / 7 2009
Take me out to Schönbrunn around noon by coach. The bus stop is approximately one quarter of the hotel.
After Schönbrunn do I get to Café Central and then find me on to Hundertwasserhaus and Alte Donau.
All the times I ordered food, I have a lettuce leaf to the right, and a lemon wedge. Potatoes and gravy are not included. However, it is no small servings you get from either the Wiener Schnitzel, chicken fillets and other meat dishes.
After lots of searching I finally found Hundertwasserhaus. Takes me then towards Prater. The mobile phone is dying. Mary in touch. We meet at the Prater.

[NIGHT - The courtyard - FAREWELL]

Monday 20 / 7 2009
I begin by checking the train station where you can also submit their baggage, which is then transported to the airport and the right aircraft, if you take the CAT train, thus directly train from Vienna to the airport.
During Keeps me in the park.

[ROVE - PARK]

I am constantly trying to optimize my travel pack every time I travel. While I realize that my needs change depending on what the purpose of the trip is. Most travel is, however, to study the city, when I have a great interest in urban planning , and trips extending over 3-5 days. It is difficult to optimize particular, if I need to have a computer or system camera with me. Sometimes I choose to work while traveling with the computer even if I manage to do most things with my iPhone. If I am to have the system camera and various lenses with me depends on what kind of architecture to be photographed, but in many cases, even with a small digital camera or cell phone with good photo features (it is unfortunately not my iPhone 3G). It is easiest to optimize the clothing and hygiene products - such can be bought or wash on the spot if you were missing something.

Now I will also start collecting all my packing lists on a web site to get a better overview and to share with them easier and to satisfy my need to buy domains: p. You can find my packing lists for different journeys on Packlista.eu .
Do you own packing lists you want to post, please share them. In the future, I will introduce a feature that allows you to send in the packing list via the website, but as long as you can email us at liljanoski (Sanabel A-) gmail.com.

CouchSurfing and large cities

by Ulf Lilja Koski on August 7, 2011

CouchSurfing - Participate in Creating a Better World, One Couch At A Time

CouchSurfing - Participate in Creating a Better World, One Couch At A Time

From many couch surfers (CouchSurfing), I hear that it can be difficult to find sleeping in the larger cities. I myself have little experience of the great cities yet, but 8 to 11 April 2011 so I decided to take me to Barcelona and find somewhere to sleep through CouchSurfing .
Do not know what CouchSurfing is so it can briefly be described as an online community where you can get in touch with people who let you sleep with them for free when you're on the road, and that you yourself in the exchange offer other to sleep for free on your own couch, in guest rooms, etc., but above all it is a wonderful way to travel and meet interesting new people.

LOW FREQUENCY RESPONSE IN BIG CITIES
It ended with me, after two weeks of searching, had sent out 153 requests for sleeping to different people in Barcelona. In 41 of these inquiries, I received a "refusal", the two I received a "Maybe" and the answer that maybe we could meet, at 109, I got no response at all and on a pc, I received an "Acceptable" request. So in percentage terms, as represented about 29% and 71% did not answer. Approximately 0.7% accepted the request.
Are you in good time with förfågningar it can certainly be more responsible.

TOO MANY INQUIRIES
When I discussed this in place in Barcelona with my CouchSurfing host Sara so she told me that she could get ten requests per day. And then you realize for yourself how hard it would be to answer all of these. One must therefore be both picky and have patience if you should want to respond to a request.
Another problem was that the requests could often be impersonal, but on the other hand, I recognize that when you send out 153 requests, you have no time to read through all the presentations properly and you do not have time to write a personal letter to each person, without using any kind of template for most (if not find someone that really captures one of his presentation).

SEARCH FOR BERTH OUTSIDE THE CITY
So the next time I'll CouchSurfing a big city, I will be out in a better time with my requests (if I manage to plan a trip in time), and I'll check some more in smaller towns outside the city.

Little London calling: Gothenburg

by Ulf Lilja Koski on May 31, 2011

Now it was a while since I visited Gothenburg, and I must admit that I probably never gave the city a real chance of an urban planning perspective, and today I would probably also be able to take advantage of night life better. However, it was in Gothenburg that I first realized that although large cities have neighborhoods that are dying in the night, places where nobody goes, neighborhoods where the pubs close at the 24th It was an epiphany I had after having promised my friends to karaoke bar near where we lived quite safe was open when we were returning to our home - "for the big cities have pubs open all night." I was wrong.

We had a nascent tradition, however, quickly ran out, taking in a hostel or cottage in Gothenburg. Wherever it was, I remember not really, but may take and check it out with my friends, but also hotels in Gothenburg would fit. Now it attracts again and I will try to get friends to take up a weekend in Gothenburg with Liseberg, nightlife and more exploration of the city.

We'll see what becomes of the plans during the summer. Until you get to listen to Anton Kristian's song Little London (which is called Gothenburg).

Travelling around by train, travel and children

by Ulf Lilja Koski on May 1, 2011

I usually try to explain that I do not think the child would be a barrier to travel around no matter how small they are. If you want to travel the world or INTERRAIL and you have children, do you solve it somehow.

Helsingborg Dagblad has just written an article about interrailing across Europe with two children that I liked, so I'll have to take and share with you on:

Interrailing - so fix your summer adventures
"Two children. Train through Europe. Doomed to failure? Not at all. Travel journalist Anna Wahlgren talks about interrail that went like clockwork. "

In Barcelona, drink Horchata

by Ulf Lilja Rapids on April 12, 2011

I have drunk my first horchata!
My hunting two year-long hunt for horchata, after hear Vampire Weekend song Horchata, has finally come to an end. What I've learned over these years is that you do not find horchata in the bars in Sweden. Nah, you can find horchata in glass bars in Spain and there is no alcohol in them. Probably they would taste better with a little alcohol in.

Happy as a little child I was when I got it in my hand.
